Figma AI credits: cost per seat, credit limits, and what buying more costs

A Full seat gets 3,000 AI credits a month on Professional, 3,500 on Organization and 4,250 on Enterprise. Dev, Collab and View seats get 500 a month on every plan, and the free Starter plan gets up to 500. Starter users and View seats also hit a daily limit of 150 credits, after which AI features wait until the next day.

Figma is explicit about four rules that decide how far those numbers go. Seat credits belong to one person. They reset monthly. They do not roll over. They cannot be shared or transferred. So a designer who used 200 of their 3,000 this month cannot hand the other 2,800 to the product manager who hit 500 by the second week. That single rule is behind most of the admin requests Figma customers post about on the community forum, and it is why the purchase options below exist at all.

Figma started enforcing seat limits on March 18, 2026. Before that, running past your allowance had no consequence, so if your team formed its habits last year, expect the limit to bite in ways it never did before.

Figma sells extra credits two ways, and both are bought by an admin at the plan level, never by the individual who ran out. The launch price list Figma published was:

• Monthly credit subscription: 5,000 credits for $120 a month, 7,500 for $180, 10,000 for $240. That works out to $0.024 a credit.
• Pay-as-you-go: $0.03 a credit, so the same 5,000 credits cost $150, 7,500 cost $225 and 10,000 cost $300, billed on your next invoice up to a monthly limit you set.

On August 25, 2026 Figma kept those prices and raised the credits: add-ons now carry 2x the credits on Professional and 1.6x on Organization and Enterprise. Applied to the launch list, $120 a month now buys roughly 10,000 credits on Professional and 8,000 on Organization or Enterprise. Treat those as working figures. Figma shows the live tiers only inside the admin dashboard, under Admin, then AI credits, then Add credits, and it can change the table without a blog post.

Buy the subscription for the usage you can predict and switch on pay-as-you-go for the spikes. Figma lets you run both at once, and when you do, subscription credits drain first and pay-as-you-go only starts once the pool is empty. Subscription credits are about 20 percent cheaper per credit, but they reset monthly and do not roll over, so an oversized package is money spent on credits nobody used.

The billing terms differ by plan, and this is the part that catches people. On Professional the credit subscription is month to month even when the plan itself is annual: upgrade any time, downgrade or cancel from the next monthly billing date. On Organization and Enterprise it is an annual commitment tied to your contract, and you can only downgrade or cancel in the 30-day window before renewal. If your Organization plan runs on a custom order form, the credit subscription becomes part of your contracted spend and may need a new order form to change. Pay-as-you-go carries no commitment: lower the limit and new usage stops at once, although anything already accrued is still billed.

On Professional, upgrading the seat is usually cheaper. Moving someone from a Collab seat at $3 to a Full seat at $16 adds 2,500 credits for $13 a month, about half a cent a credit, well under any add-on price. The catch is that those credits stay with that one person, and the Full seat also opens Figma Design editing, which may or may not be something you want them to have.

On Organization and Enterprise the arithmetic flips. Collab to Full on Organization is $5 to $55, so $50 a month buys 3,000 extra credits, about $0.017 each. On Enterprise it is $5 to $90, so $85 buys 3,750 credits, about $0.023 each. Both sit at or above the pooled subscription rate after the August 2026 increase, and the subscription can be shared by everyone who runs out rather than one named person. Figma's own admin guidance lists both paths when someone requests more credits: raise their limit, enable paid credit access, upgrade the seat, buy a subscription, or wait for the reset. Less than most people budget for. Figma's consumption table, dated August 25, 2026, lists Summarize stickies, Cluster stickies and Update visual in FigJam as free. Generating templates and diagrams in FigJam costs 2 to 24 credits per prompt. Generating a FigJam diagram through ChatGPT currently consumes no Figma credits at all.

So a facilitator on a $3 Collab seat can generate at least twenty boards a month from the 500-credit allowance even at the expensive end, and summarizing the workshop afterwards costs nothing. The heavy consumers sit elsewhere. Figma Make runs roughly 30 credits for a font change, 75 or more to make a design interactive and 100 or more to generate an app from scratch, and AI image tools cost 1 to 16 credits per image depending on the tool and model. Figma has also said Weave tools and the agent in Figma Design will start drawing from the same pool once they leave open beta. The AI action stops and, depending on how the admin has set things up, the person sees an option to request more. That request changes nothing on its own. It sends the admin an email and an in-product notification, and the admin then decides whether to raise that person's limit, give them access to paid credits, upgrade their seat, buy a subscription or let them wait for the monthly reset. On Starter and View seats there is also the 150-a-day ceiling, which clears the next day.

If the admin has already bought a subscription or enabled pay-as-you-go, nothing visible happens at all: usage moves from the seat allowance to the shared pool automatically. That is convenient and also how surprise invoices happen, so set a pay-as-you-go limit you would be comfortable seeing on the bill, and use per-person limits for anyone experimenting heavily with Make.

A lot of Figma AI spend on non-design seats is ideation: someone asking FigJam to seed a board so the session does not start blank. That is a reasonable use of 500 credits, and for many teams it is enough. Where it stops being enough is when the ideas themselves are the job. FigJam generates a template or a diagram. It does not argue with your challenge.
