Stormboard pricing: plans, real team costs, and what you actually pay

The Business plan is $10 per enabled user per month, or about $99.96 per user billed annually, and it lifts the caps: unlimited members, substorms, idea grouping, custom templates, import and export to Microsoft Office and Google, SSO and audit logs. Enterprise is custom, adds meeting analytics, single-tenant hosting, data retention controls and Surface Hub support, and starts with a sales conversation.

The word that decides your bill is enabled. Stormboard charges per enabled user, not per person who ever logged in, so an admin can switch seats on and off as the team changes and the invoice follows the count of active seats. That makes the arithmetic honest and predictable: multiply $10 by the number of people who actually need to create and edit, and that is close to your monthly number. There is no separate AI credit meter layered on top the way there is with some competitors, which keeps the total easy to forecast.

Business is the tier most teams actually buy, because the free plan is deliberately thin. Upgrading turns on the features that make Stormboard a working collaboration tool rather than a demo: substorms (a Storm nested inside a sticky, so a big session breaks into focused sub-sessions), idea grouping, section types, custom templates, and two-way import and export with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. It also adds the administration a company needs, SSO support, audit logs and priority support, plus the reporting that turns a messy wall into a shareable summary.

Guests are the detail worth noting. Business allows ten guests per Storm, which covers most workshops, but a very large facilitated session with many external participants can bump against that ceiling and push you toward Enterprise, where guests are unlimited. If your use case is internal team sessions, ten guests is rarely a constraint; if you run big client workshops, count heads before you commit to Business.

The arithmetic worth doing before the trial ends, at the annual rate of about $100 per user a year:

• 3 enabled users: about $30 a month, roughly $300 a year.
• 5 enabled users: about $50 a month, roughly $500 a year.
• 10 enabled users: about $100 a month, roughly $1,000 a year.
• 25 enabled users: about $250 a month, roughly $2,500 a year, and at this size most teams open an Enterprise conversation for governance rather than staying on list-price Business.

The forcing feature that moves a team off Business is almost never board count, since Storms are unlimited there. It is governance and scale: single-tenant hosting, data retention rules, meeting analytics and unlimited guests all live on Enterprise, and a security or compliance review triggers that upgrade regardless of headcount. Budget for the tier your security requirements land on, not just the one your team size suggests.

There is a genuinely free Personal plan, and its real limit is not a locked feature list but the member cap: five members per Storm. That is enough for a solo user or a pair to run a session and see how the tool works, and it stops being enough the moment a real team needs to be in the room together with the collaboration features turned on. Like most free tiers in this category, it is a trial in everything but name.

On brainstorming specifically, be honest about what a structured whiteboard does. Stormboard is genuinely good at organizing a session: sticky notes, sections, substorms, voting and reporting give a facilitator real structure, which is more than a blank canvas offers. But the ideas are still yours to supply. The tool gives you a place to put ideas and a way to sort them; it does not generate genuinely different directions, run SCAMPER or Six Thinking Hats over your challenge on its own, or converge the wall into a scored decision.
