ClickUp Whiteboards cost nothing extra. They are bundled into every ClickUp plan, so the whiteboard price is the plan price: $0 on Free Forever, $7 per user per month on Unlimited billed annually, $12 on Business, and a quote on Enterprise. That bundling is genuinely the strongest thing about ClickUp's whiteboard offer, and it is worth stating plainly before we get to the caveats. A standalone whiteboard like Miro or Mural is a second subscription sitting next to your project tool. In ClickUp the board lives in the same workspace as the tasks, so a sticky note can become a task without an export, a copy and paste, or an integration that quietly breaks. If your team already pays for ClickUp, your whiteboarding budget is already spent.

The place the arithmetic goes wrong is AI. ClickUp does not include AI in the seat price the way Mural does. Brain AI is a separate subscription at $7.20 per user per month billed annually, or $9 monthly, and Everything AI is $22.40 or $28. ClickUp's pricing page is explicit that every AI plan carries a monthly credit allowance shared across the workspace, which means the budget you approve is not the budget you spend if the team uses it heavily.

Yes. Free Forever is a real plan with no time limit and no forced downgrade, and it includes unlimited tasks and unlimited free plan members, which is unusually generous. What it does not include is unlimited whiteboards. You get 3, and 60MB of storage across the whole workspace.

Whether that is enough depends entirely on how your team treats a board. If a whiteboard is a durable artifact you keep, the roadmap, the architecture sketch, the current quarter's plan, then 3 is workable for a long time. If a whiteboard is disposable, one per session, one per feature kickoff, one per retro, you will hit the ceiling in a month and spend the following month deleting old boards to make room for new ones.

The 60MB storage cap is the limit that bites sooner than people expect, because it is workspace wide rather than per user. One team member attaching a handful of screenshots and a PDF spec can consume a meaningful slice of it. Free Forever is a genuine way to evaluate ClickUp properly, and it is not a plausible long term home for a team that produces files.

Three. ClickUp's own pricing page lists Whiteboards as one of the capped features on Free Forever, alongside 5 Spaces, 1 form and 60MB of storage. Every paid tier, starting at Unlimited for $7 per user per month billed annually, removes the cap entirely.

Three is a deliberate number and it tells you what the free plan is for. It is enough to build one board, share it, and discover whether ClickUp Whiteboards feel right, with two spare for the boards you inevitably start and abandon. It is not enough to run a working practice. That is a fair trade and a more honest free tier than a 14 day trial, but it does mean the upgrade decision arrives on a specific Tuesday when someone cannot create a board, rather than gradually.

Worth knowing if you are comparing free tiers across the category: Miro's free plan keeps 3 boards editable, Mural's free plan keeps 3 murals editable, and ClickUp gives 3 whiteboards. The number three is remarkably consistent across the category, so a free tier is unlikely to be the thing that decides this for you. It costs extra, on every tier. ClickUp sells AI as its own subscription line: Brain AI at $7.20 per user per month billed annually or $9 monthly, and Everything AI at $22.40 or $28. Neither is folded into Unlimited, Business or Enterprise. Free Forever gets trial access with limits rather than an ongoing allowance.

Add it to a Business seat and the per person cost goes from $12 to $19.20 a month, which is a 60 percent increase for the same set of whiteboards. Everything AI takes the same seat to $34.40. That shape matters when you compare against Mural, where AI is included from Team+ upward with no separate meter, or against Miro, which bundles a monthly credit allowance into the seat rather than selling the capability separately.

The credit allowance is the part to read carefully. ClickUp's pricing page says the allowance is shared across your whole workspace, not granted per user. A twenty person workspace where three people use AI constantly will exhaust a pool that a workspace with even usage would not, and the people who run out are not necessarily the people who spent it. If you are approving this budget, ask what happens at the end of the allowance before you sign, not after.

Sketching and freehand drawing, shapes and connectors, sticky notes, real time multi user editing, presentation mode, and export to PDF. The distinguishing feature is the one no standalone whiteboard has: objects on the board convert into real ClickUp tasks, and ClickUp will build a project out of a whiteboard in one click. Templates ship for roadmaps, visualizations and project updates.

The AI inside the whiteboard is narrower than the marketing suggests. ClickUp's own whiteboards feature page names image generation, turning text into visuals on the board, and AI assisted conversion of a brainstorm into a project. What it does not name anywhere is idea generation, affinity clustering or voting. If you want the board to produce ideas, group them into themes, or help a group choose between them, those are not capabilities ClickUp documents.

That is a coherent product decision rather than an oversight. ClickUp Whiteboards exist to get work out of a discussion and into the task system, which is the thing ClickUp is genuinely excellent at. The board is a doorway into execution. It is not an ideation instrument, and the moment after the board fills up is where its job ends and someone else's begins.

For ten people over a year, ClickUp Unlimited at $840 is the cheapest way to get unlimited whiteboards of any tool in this comparison except Milanote. Add AI and the ranking inverts completely, because ClickUp is the only one of the three charging for AI separately.

Read the right row for your situation. If you want a whiteboard and nothing else, ClickUp Unlimited undercuts Miro Starter by $120 a year for ten people and throws in a project management platform. If you want AI on the board, Mural Team+ at $1,199 is cheaper than ClickUp Unlimited with Brain AI at $1,704, and Mural does not meter it. There is one more line nobody puts in these tables. If you already pay for ClickUp because it is your work management system, the marginal cost of using its whiteboards is zero, and no amount of comparison shopping beats zero. The comparison only becomes real when you are choosing ClickUp partly for the board, or when the AI add on turns a $1,440 decision into a $2,304 one.

It is good at the half of brainstorming that happens after the ideas exist. Getting a discussion onto a shared surface, turning the surface into tasks with owners and dates, and keeping the whole trail in one system is genuinely hard to do well, and ClickUp does it better than any standalone whiteboard because there is no handoff.

It is weak at the half that happens before. A whiteboard is a blank rectangle, and a blank rectangle does not generate anything. Someone still has to fill it, which means someone still has to facilitate, which means the quality of the session depends on who showed up and how much sleep they got. ClickUp's own documentation does not claim otherwise: idea generation, clustering and voting are not on the whiteboards feature page.

This is the split that decides whether the board is your bottleneck. If your team reliably produces good ideas and loses them somewhere between the meeting and the sprint, ClickUp Whiteboards fix your actual problem and you should stop reading here. Run SCAMPER or Six Thinking Hats over the output yourself. The same run also lifts out a shortlist: the three strongest ideas across all six personas, each with its reasoning written in sentences you can paste into a document.

The sensible answer for most ClickUp teams is both, in sequence. Produce and narrow the ideas somewhere built for it, then put the winner on a ClickUp whiteboard and convert it into the tasks that will actually get done.
