The generating half of idea management

Ideation management software that turns a question into developed ideas

Ideation management software runs the part of innovation where ideas are created and developed, before anyone scores or approves them. Brainstormer frames each round as a challenge, seeds it with AI starter ideas, and expands every short submission into a problem, a solution, a first step and a success measure.

What ideation management software actually manages

Ideation is the generating half of innovation: someone asks a question, people propose answers, and those answers get developed until a reviewer can judge them. Ideation management software gives that half a structure. Instead of a meeting that ends with a photo of sticky notes, you get a named challenge, a list of ideas attached to it, and a clear hand over into review.

In Brainstormer the unit of ideation is the challenge. A challenge has a question ("How could we cut customer onboarding time in half?"), a short description of the context and constraints, a deadline, and a status of open or closed. Everyone invited to the workspace can see open challenges and submit ideas to them, and each idea stays linked to the question it answers.

What happens after ideation, the scoring, the stages and the decisions, is the job of the wider idea management software. This page is about the front of that process: getting more and better raw material into it.

Why good ideation starts with the question, not the idea

The quality of the ideas you collect is capped by the quality of the question you ask. "Any ideas to improve the company?" produces a mix of parking complaints and pet projects. "How could we reduce first week support tickets from new customers?" produces ideas that can be compared, because they all try to solve the same problem.

A useful challenge question names one outcome, one group of people it affects, and implies a way to measure progress. The description then adds what is off limits (budget ceilings, systems that cannot change) and what a good answer looks like. Adding a deadline matters more than it seems: a challenge that closes on a known date gets a burst of submissions, while an open ended one slowly goes quiet.

If you want a step by step view of how a challenge moves from question to board report, see how Brainstormer works. For running themed campaigns across the year, the innovation challenge software page covers scheduling and limits in more depth.

AI starter ideas and expansion, from two sentences to a reviewable idea

Two things kill ideation in practice. The first is the empty page: people hesitate to post the first idea in a public list. Brainstormer can suggest starter ideas for a challenge, which gives everyone something concrete to agree with, improve or argue against. Starter ideas are clearly generated, and they compete on the same terms as everything else.

The second is the underdeveloped idea. Most employees will write two sentences, and two sentences are rarely enough for a reviewer to decide. The AI expansion rewrites each submission into four parts: the problem it addresses, the proposed solution, a realistic first step, and a measure of success. The author keeps credit, and the reviewer gets something they can actually compare.

Because expanded ideas share the same structure, the next stage becomes easier too. AI can then spot near duplicates and merge them with authors and votes preserved, and group the rest into themes, which the idea clustering page explains in detail.

The AI workshop for questions that need wider thinking

Some questions are too strategic for an open submission round. For those, the AI workshop runs six standing perspectives against one question: Optimist, Skeptic, Customer, Engineer, Marketer and Visionary. Each perspective argues from its own angle, so you see the upside, the objections, the customer view and the practical constraints side by side.

The workshop output does not stay in a separate tool. You can send its results into a challenge as ideas, where they sit next to employee submissions and go through the same expansion, scoring and pipeline. That keeps leadership thinking and frontline ideas in one comparable list.

Workshops are included in every plan: 20 a month on Team, 100 on Business and 500 on Enterprise. Team starts at $149 a month billed yearly, and you can see pricing for the full comparison or try the demo challenge on the homepage without an account.

Questions

What is ideation management software?

Software that structures how a company generates and develops ideas: framing a question as a challenge, collecting submissions against it, helping people develop rough ideas into something reviewable, and handing them into a decision process. It covers the creative front of idea management rather than portfolio reporting.

How is ideation management different from idea management?

Ideation is the generating and developing part. Idea management is the full cycle, including scoring, stages, decisions and reporting. Brainstormer does both in one workspace, and ideas move from the challenge straight into the pipeline at the submitted stage.

Does the AI write ideas instead of employees?

No. AI suggests starter ideas to get a challenge moving and expands each employee submission into problem, solution, first step and success measure. The original author keeps credit, and generated starter ideas compete on the same terms as everyone else.

Can we use Brainstormer just for a one off ideation session?

You can run a single challenge or an AI workshop, but Brainstormer is sold as a subscription for a company workspace. Team covers up to 25 members and 3 open challenges at a time, billed yearly at $1,788 or $298 month to month.
