Brightidea pricing in 2026 and what an enterprise contract costs
Brightidea does not publish its prices. Every route on its site ends in "Request Demo", and the contract is quoted from the modules you license, how many people take part and how much services work you buy. The best public benchmark is Vendr, which puts the median Brightidea contract at $49,196 a year, with a typical range of $45,300 to $53,240. Budget for a five figure annual contract and treat the $59 a month figure on Capterra as something else entirely.
This guide is for the innovation, operations or HR lead who has Brightidea on the shortlist and needs a realistic number before the first sales call. If you would rather compare tools that put every price on the page, the Brightidea alternative page sets Brightidea next to Brainstormer row by row.
How much does Brightidea cost?
Brightidea is quote only. Contract data collected by Vendr shows a median of $49,196 a year, and most deals land between $45,300 and $53,240. Capterra lists a starting price of $59 a month at a flat rate, but that figure cannot be tied to the idea management platform and is far below what companies report paying for it.
Here is every figure we could trace to a source, read in October 2026.
| Source | What it says | How much to trust it |
|---|---|---|
| Brightidea website | No prices. Product pages and the homepage point to "Request Demo" and "Contact Us". | The only first party position, and it tells you the price is negotiated |
| Vendr marketplace | Median buyer pays $49,196 a year, range $45,300 to $53,240 | Based on real purchase data, the most useful number for a budget; Vendr does not say how many contracts it covers |
| Capterra (listing updated September 2026) | Starting price $59 a month, flat rate, free trial available, no free version | Current, but a starting price for the smallest product, not for a company idea program |
| Brainstormer, for comparison | Team $149, Business $399, Enterprise $999 a month billed yearly | Published on our pricing page, self serve checkout |
Why a $59 listing and a $49,196 median can both be true
Brightidea sells a suite, not a single product. Its Innovation Cloud includes Idea Box for always open idea collection, Program for crowdsourcing challenges, Hackathon, Lab for tracking experiments, Ecosystem for open innovation with partners, Transformation for company wide change programs, and Whiteboard and Memo for workshops. When Brightidea launched Whiteboard in September 2021, it announced a free 30 day trial and said existing Innovation Cloud customers got it at no extra cost.
A directory starting price describes the cheapest thing you can buy. A contract benchmark describes what companies actually sign for an idea program with challenges, review workflows, administrators and onboarding. Those are different purchases. If your goal is to run employee idea challenges and pick winners with leadership, plan around the Vendr range and ignore the $59 line.
What drives a Brightidea quote
When the sales team builds your proposal, these are the levers that move the number. Ask about each one so you can compare like for like.
- Modules. Idea Box alone is a smaller purchase than Idea Box plus Program, Hackathon and Lab. List what you need in year one and leave the rest for renewal.
- Participants. How many employees, and whether customers or partners join through Ecosystem. Outside audiences usually add cost and moderation work.
- Services. Implementation, program design, training and a success manager are often scoped into enterprise quotes. Ask for them as separate lines.
- Integrations and sign in. Single sign on and connections to systems such as Salesforce or ServiceNow tend to come with configuration time.
- Term length. Multi year commitments usually lower the yearly price and raise the cost of leaving.
Questions to ask on the Brightidea demo call
Bring a written list and ask for the answers in the proposal, not on a slide.
- What is the total first year cost, including implementation, training and any services package?
- Which modules are in the quote, and which features shown in the demo are add ons?
- Is the price per user, per module, per program or flat, and what happens when we add 300 people?
- What is the minimum term, the renewal increase cap and the notice period for cancelling?
- How long from signature to our first live challenge, and who does the configuration?
- When one challenge brings in 400 ideas, how does the platform help reviewers merge duplicates, score them and produce a report for leadership?
The last question carries more weight than it seems. Collecting ideas is cheap on any platform. The real cost of an idea program sits in reviewer hours, so a tool that leaves people reading every submission by hand costs more than its license says. Once the contract is signed, put the renewal date and notice period into your contract management software so an auto renewal never decides the next three years for you. Our idea management software buyers guide has the full checklist we would take to any vendor call.
Brightidea pricing compared with tools that publish prices
If your budget is a few thousand dollars a year rather than a $45,000 to $53,000 contract, compare Brightidea with vendors that put every number on the page. Brainstormer prices per company, not per user or per module:
| Company size | Brainstormer plan | Brainstormer per year | Brightidea, Vendr median |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 25 people | Team | $1,788 | $49,196 |
| Up to 150 people | Business | $4,788 | $49,196 |
| Up to 1,000 people | Enterprise | $11,988 | $49,196 |
The scope differs as much as the price. Brainstormer puts AI on the review side: each idea is expanded into a problem, a solution, a first step and a success measure, then scored on impact, cost, risk and strategic fit against your own goals with a short written rationale. Duplicates are merged with every author kept, ideas are grouped into themes, and on Business and Enterprise each challenge ends with a board report. There is no sales call. You can run a demo challenge on the homepage and open a workspace by card the same day.
Two other vendors in the category publish prices too. Hives.co lists Core at $795 a month billed yearly, which we break down on the Hives.co alternative page, and Ideawake lists its licenses from $300 a month. The idea management software pricing page shows how the whole category charges.
When Brightidea is worth the quote
A tailored enterprise contract makes sense in a few situations. If you have a chief innovation officer and several program managers running hackathons, challenges and experiments in parallel across business units, Brightidea's portfolio tooling is built for that. If you need single sign on, an API or connectors into enterprise systems, Brightidea offers integrations and Brainstormer offers none. If customers and partners must take part through an open innovation portal, Ecosystem covers that and Brainstormer is for your own employees only.
If none of that applies, and what you need is to ask the company one question and put a ranked shortlist in front of leadership within a month, a tool with published prices will usually get you there faster and for a fraction of the cost. If IdeaScale is also on your list, IdeaScale pricing covers its quote in the same way, and IdeaScale vs Brightidea compares the two enterprise platforms directly.
Does Brightidea have a free trial?
Capterra lists a free trial and no free version for Brightidea, and Whiteboard launched with a free 30 day trial in 2021. For the idea management platform itself, expect a guided demo before any trial. Brainstormer has no free plan either, but you can run a demo challenge without an account, and the trial after signup covers one challenge, three members and five AI actions.
